  1. ROME II is the best-selling title in Total War’s long history. Set against a classical backdrop charting the rise of Rome as the world’s first superpower, ROME II allows you to play as many different factions of the time, across a vast theatre stretching from the western tip of.
  2. Featuring hundreds of gruesome animations that play out in combat between multiple different unit types, the massed battles of Total War: ROME II will never be the same again. Employing a more refined particle system than Shogun 2, Blood & Gore for ROME II looks and feels grittier and more brutal.
This mod replaces the texture for blood and tones down the dirt effects.

This mod changes 2 things: blood overlay and dirt overlay
I really dislike the fact that once a unit gets really blooded up it starts looking like a tomatoe. Unless the knights acctually smeared themselves with blood I find it very unlikely that they would get as much blood on them as they do in vanilla. A stabbing or slashing wound would produce a squirt or spray of blood at best and not a bucketlike outpoor. My new textures try to remedy that by decreasing the overall amount of blood and instead adding a spatter like effect.
The other problem I found in vanilla was that the cavalry units would get dirty within the first minute of a battle even if they did not move. The new dirt texture addreses this by toning down the dirt effect so it is almost imperceptible. On the other hand dirt+blood still looks like dirt+blood.
II. Changelog
- added alternative texture for those who have the 'bloody' trait.
III. Limitations
If you have Horsearchers blood+sky mod these files will voerwrite his textures.
IV. Installation
Note: texture mods won't work in any other directory than the vanilla /data/ directory.
Prerequisites:
- Medieval 2 : Total War (and possibly patched to version 1.1)
Procedure:
- (Optional, recommended if you plan to deinstall) Backup the following directories and their contents in your vanilla MTW2 installation folder:
+ *dataoverlaytextures
- Paste the /data/ folder, and its contents, found with this readme in you MTW2 root directory and click 'yes' when prompted to overwrite.
- If you want a bloodier (unrealistic) looking effects paste the paste the /data/ folder from the /More Blood/ on top of the previous one.
- enable file reading by doing 1 or 2:
1. add the lines
[io]
file_first = true
to the 'medieval2.preference.CFG' file. Note that you will also need to add this line to any mod specific .CFG files if you use a mod-switches (make sure your CFG file is read-only as the game will erase the command otherwise).
2. use the .bat file provided witht he readme to launch the game
- DONE!
V. Deinstallation
If you have backed-up your files simply restore them, else re-unpack the the data packs of the original game or remove the '[io] file_first = true' from your .CFG files.
V. Future Work
I will release a horse barding and generals mod within a week.
I will improve the exising texture packs if anyone posts any good suggestions with PICTURES.

Sorry for the late response but as the description said you will be more likely to get help at my texture thread than here.
Do you have the v0.9 or v0.91 ?
v0.9 does not have the extra blood.

The original bloodeffects really look like they took a bath in blood. maybe a joker who made it.
SonOfCrusader76@ Preatorian II (Praetorian?) I think it might have something to do with your cfg file being read-only. Go into properties to check. (Right click on the cfg file and select properties from the menu). Try it with read only checked and if it is still deleted, type it again and try it with read only unchecked. Hope that helps

Excellent addon mod!
Wize1I must be retarded. First, how do I ADD THE LINES [io] blah blah whatever. I don't get that. Second, I have the steam version of M2TW, will it still work? third, I didn't have the overlay textures thing in my data folder, is this a problem? Fourth, I changed my shortcut (my exe.) to have @landstoconquer.cgf, do I need to add @ cgf. for all my cgf files? I am one confuuused fellow.

Alright, I figured it out. I have to open the CFG with word or something. I tried to edit it but it said access denied. It's probably stupid team. Instead I used a cfg of lands to conquer mod, so we'll see if it works like that. (waits for CTD)
cowboy99i tried to download it but it said 'windows cannot open this file: to open this file windows needs to know what created this' ya and then i get lost can anyone plz help me?
